Zion Canyon is where almost every visitor starts, and Day 1 below covers its best-known stops in order along the canyon road: the Emerald Pools, Weeping Rock, the Grotto, and Riverside Walk toward the Narrows. It is a complete day on its own, not a preview.
A third day adds the canyon's two most talked-about hikes, Angels Landing and the Narrows, split across two days along with the outfitters in town that help with gear and conditions. A fifth day leaves the canyon for the quieter Kolob Terrace and Kolob Canyons trails and ends in Springdale, the gateway town at the south entrance.
Day 1 Zion Canyon floor
One day in Zion: the canyon floor, start to finish
Every stop on this day sits along the same canyon road, in the order most visitors actually drive and walk it.

Start at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, at the mouth of the canyon, and pick up the Pa'rus Trail along the Virgin River as an easy first stretch before the canyon narrows and the road climbs.
The trio of Emerald Pools trails, Lower, Middle, and Upper, sit close together partway up the canyon and are the natural next stop, one after another.
Weeping Rock and the Grotto Picnic Area sit farther up the road; use the Grotto as a rest stop between hikes. Finish at Temple of Sinawava, the trailhead for Riverside Walk along the river toward the mouth of the Narrows, a good turnaround point on a one-day visit, saving the Narrows itself for a dedicated day.
With kids: The Emerald Pools trio and the Grotto Picnic Area are the easiest stretch of the day for young kids; save the Narrows and Angels Landing for a future visit.

Day 2 Angels Landing and the West Rim

With kids: This is a day for older kids and confident hikers. If the group isn't up for the climb, swap in Day 3's lower-effort stops instead.

Day 3 The Narrows and Watchman

The Narrows pairs naturally with the shorter Watchman routes on the same side of the canyon.

The Narrows is the day's main event; Zion Guru, in town, is a resource for gear and current river conditions before you go.
Watchman Trail and Sand Bench are the lower-effort options for the rest of the day, both closer to the visitor center and the south entrance than the Narrows trailhead.
With kids: Save the Narrows for kids who are comfortable wading in current; Sand Bench is the easier family option this day.

Day 4 Kolob Terrace and Kolob Canyons

Day 4 leaves Zion Canyon behind: Taylor Creek Trail, the Hike to Dumpling Overlook, Keyhole Canyon, the East Mesa Trailhead toward Observation Point, and Timber Creek Overlook are spread farther apart than anything on the canyon floor.
East Zion Adventures is a resource for that side of the park if you need current information before heading out.
With kids: This is a spread-out driving day; pick one or two of these trails rather than all five with young kids along.

Day 5 Springdale, the gateway town

Springdale sits right at the south entrance, the natural place to end the trip.
