06 / WHEN THE PARK IS NOT THE PLAN
Summer: Hiking and wildlife viewing in Glacier NP corridor; short drives to lakes and trailheads. Winter: Winter access is more limited; snow and road closures can occur; fewer services open. Rest days, smoke days and arrival days all land here.
Picnic by Pass Creek in Waterton: tables, shelter, fire pits, and Red Rock Parkway nearby.

Glacier National Park shuttles operate seasonally from West Glacier/Columbia Falls; no dedicated Mountain View shuttle.
Spotty cell service; expect limited or no reliable connectivity.
Peak: July–August (higher visitor traffic in nearby gateway towns).. Shoulder: May–June and September–October.. Shoulder seasons (May–June, September–October) are calmer; July–August bring crowds in surrounding towns, even if Mountain View itself stays quiet.
Walk-ins possible in some cases, but lodging in Kalispell/Columbia Falls fills quickly in peak season.
