Natural Attraction
Siyeh Bend
Standing at Siyeh Bend, the road curves through a dramatic junction where subalpine forest meets the transition to high alpine tundra. This ecological shift marks a glacial boundary—the U-shaped valley walls visible across the chasm were excavated by Pleistocene ice, while the dense forest below reflects the warmer microclimate of the park's east slope. Two major alpine passes depart from this trailhead, each climbing 2,000+ feet to cross the Continental Divide. The transition you observe at road level continues throughout: stunted whitebark pine gives way to windswept meadows as elevation increases, a signature of glacial-sculpted terrain.
