Natural Attraction
Park Sign Scenic Highway 12 Western Boundary
From Highway 12, you'll encounter a stone boundary marker at milepost 14.5 signaling Bryce Canyon's western gateway. The landscape shifts here—the high plateau transitions into tilted, rust-colored layers of the Claron Formation, with hoodoo spires rising visibly inland. This monument marks where erosion has carved the distinctive vertical rock towers Bryce is known for, a process driven by the unusual tilt of the rock strata and Bryce's high elevation, which accelerates weathering and runoff.
