Natural Attraction
Mahogany Hammock
The largest living mahogany tree in the United States stands in this dense hardwood hammock along the Tamiami Trail. Gumbo-limbo trees and air plants thrive in the humid understory, and the self-guiding boardwalk winds 0.5 miles through a jungle-like forest with interpretive signs explaining the ecosystem. This hammock demonstrates how tropical vegetation establishes itself in South Florida's distinctive hydrologic conditions.
