Apgar Nature Center

Natural Attraction
A wooden sign that says Apgar Nature Center hangs from a tall, wooden arch made of logs.

Step into a weathered log cabin built in 1929 and touch grizzly claws, wolf pelts, and hand-held fossils—the Apgar Nature Center's entire design revolves around tactile discovery. The cabin originally housed guests at the Greenwalt Hotel complex until 1956, when the National Park Service acquired the land and converted it into an interpretive space. Ranger-led programs rotate seasonally, offering guided talks on Glacier's wildlife and the cabin's earlier commercial life. For families, it's a 20–30 minute indoor refuge on hot days or a quick stop before heading up Going-to-the-Sun Road.
