Questions people ask
Short answers
Is Schnaus Cabin actually inside Glacier National Park?
No. It's in Flathead National Forest near the North Fork Flathead River, about 42 miles from Columbia Falls on mostly gravel roads — it's not a guaranteed base for Glacier's trailheads.
Does the cabin have running water or electricity?
No. There's no drinking water or electricity, so bring your own water, bedding, food, and a flashlight or lantern.
How many people can stay, and what's the sleeping setup?
Up to 12 guests across 2 bedrooms and 8 beds: two double beds and a bunk on the main floor, plus twin beds in the loft.
How long can I book the cabin for?
Reservations are capped at 3 consecutive nights and 7 nights total per calendar year, with 2pm check-in and noon checkout.
Where can I get supplies if I run low?
Polebridge Mercantile, about 7 miles south, has limited supplies — it's not a substitute for bringing your own water and food.
What happens if weather or road conditions disrupt my trip?
There are no refunds for weather or road issues, so call the ranger district (406-387-3800, Mon–Fri 8am–4:30pm) ahead of time to check conditions.
Can I bring my dog?
No — pets and livestock aren't allowed at this cabin.
