This notice explains the first-party analytics and consent system used on YourNPGuide.com. It supplements our Privacy Policy. Our goal is simple: understand which parts of our national park guides are genuinely useful so we can improve them. We do this in a privacy-preserving, first-party way — we never sell your personal information and we never share this data with advertisers or third-party ad networks.
Your choices
- Essential & basic traffic measurement (always on): site function plus basic visit counting via Google Analytics and Google Search Console. This tells us only how many people visit and which pages they view; advertising features and ad personalization are permanently disabled.
- Optional first-party analytics (your choice): the deeper measurements listed below (reading engagement, link & search activity) run only according to your selection on the consent banner. Choose granularly via Choose options — each is a separate toggle. Your choice is remembered in a first-party cookie and can be changed anytime via the Your Privacy Choices control shown on every page. California residents may exercise their right to opt out through the same control.
What we measure (only with consent, where required)
- Reading engagement — how far you scroll, whether you reach the end of an article, and which sections are read.
- Link & search activity — clicks on links, affiliate links, and buttons, plus searches typed on our site.
- How you arrived — the referring site or campaign parameters.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any information that directly identifies you through this analytics system.
- We do not store your IP address or user-agent string in readable form — they are kept only as irreversible salted hashes.
- We do not sell, rent, or share this data with third parties, and we do not use it for cross-site advertising.
Automated visitors and AI crawlers
We keep a coarse, non-personal server log of automated visitors (search-engine and AI crawlers) to understand which content is being indexed. This records the crawler’s identity and the page it requested — no personal data.
How long we keep it
- Analytics events: automatically deleted after 180 days.
- Consent records: retained up to 24 months as proof of choice, then deleted.
Performance
The analytics script is lightweight, loads without blocking the page, and sends data in the background, so it does not slow down your browsing.
Contact
Questions or a request to remove your data can be sent through our contact page.
