Will I actually see wolves?
No sighting is guaranteed. The northern range is one of the best places in the world to watch wolves, and dawn in Lamar Valley gives you the best odds - most sightings are distant, so bring optics.
Which valley should I choose?
Lamar for wolves and year-round road access; Hayden for bison herds at the center of the park in July and August and grizzly habitat in early summer.
Is it safe with kids?
Yes, from the vehicle and pullouts. Keep 100 yards from bears and wolves and 25 yards from bison and elk - bison injure more visitors than any other park animal.
Do I need any equipment?
Binoculars at minimum; a spotting scope if you are serious. Warm layers matter - dawn at this elevation is near freezing even in summer.
