Glacial Lake

From Stella Lake, Wheeler Peak dominates the skyline to the north—a granite sentinel rising above the alpine basin. The lake itself sits in a U-shaped cirque scoured by glaciers during the Pleistocene; granite walls frame the water on three sides. Accessible via two trailheads on a relatively short hike, Stella Lake offers one of Great Basin's most direct routes to alpine scenery. The surrounding ridges show clear evidence of glacial action: polished rock faces, fresh moraine deposits, and sparse vegetation clinging to talus slopes.
