Natural Attraction
HM-69 Mosquito Painting
The faded paint blotches on the pavement once formed a life-sized mosquito painting—approximately one foot by one foot—created by soldiers stationed at this Cold War Nike missile base. The artwork reflects the daily reality of life in the subtropical Everglades: snakes, alligators, and insects were constant companions to military personnel stationed here. This modest artistic commentary on wildlife, now largely weathered away, stands as a tangible connection to the 1960s military presence at the base.
