Yovimpa Point
Overview
About This Attraction
From Yovimpa Point you overlook a 100-mile expanse of colorful Grand Staircase cliffs: soft pink mudstones capping grey shales and white sandstones, layered like a geological timeline of 300 million years. The distant Kaibab Upwarp—the northern rim of the Grand Canyon—forms the horizon. Tectonic uplift raised this viewpoint 1,000 ft higher than the park's north end, while rain and frost-wedging continuously chisel the Pink Cliffs into hoodoo towers and pinnacles.
