Solar Voltaic Arrays
Watch two enormous sun-tracking solar arrays automatically adjust their position throughout every day and season, tilting and rotating to chase the sun with 1-2-degree precision. Unlike rooftop solar panels, these Concentrating PhotoVoltaic (CPV) arrays use Fresnel lenses—the same optical technology found in lighthouses—to concentrate sunlight onto tiny triple-junction photovoltaic chips. Operating at 140 kilowatts and peaking at 150, this array generates more than twice the energy the Bryce Canyon Visitor Center uses, returning excess power to the regional grid on sunny days.
