Overview

About This Trail

Tower Bridge is a moderate 3-mile roundtrip to one of Bryce's most iconic hoodoo formations. The descent into the canyon on firm native sediment demands respect—760 feet down means 760 feet back up in thinner air. The payoff is the shaded spur trail leading to the striking Tower Bridge hoodoo, with an option to extend to the full Fairyland Loop. Expect exposure and heat on the rim; bring water and start early.

Trail Highlights

The iconic Tower Bridge hoodoo—a striking red rock arch visible from the shaded 1/4-mile spur trail. Worth the 760 feet of elevation gain for photographers and geology enthusiasts. Option to extend to the full Fairyland Loop Trail for additional formations.

Insider Tips

• Most hikers underestimate the climb out—pace yourself and don't blow up at Mile 2. • The shaded spur to Tower Bridge is your oxygen station. Sit. Rest. Don't rush to the hoodoo. • The Tower Bridge sits at the end of a 1/4-mile spur—walk all the way to it. Turn back at the bridge. • Fairyland Loop extension is only for those with energy reserves left. Know your limits. • Sunrise Point parking fills during peak times. 6 AM isn't early—it's on-time.

Year-round

Hiking Tips

  • Boots locked tight—firm sediment shifts and twists. Ankle injury here means evacuation.
  • Hydration protocol: 2L minimum. The rim is brutal exposure. Fill water at the General Store near Sunrise Point before descending.
  • The shaded spur to Tower Bridge is your oxygen station—use it to cool down and mentally reset before the climb.
  • Descent feels easy; ascent tests legs, lungs, and mental resolve. Trekking poles reduce pain and increase power.
  • Start no later than 6 AM. Afternoon heat is a real hazard.
  • Pets prohibited. Service animals permitted.

Family Info

Not suitable for very young children. The 760 feet of elevation gain and descent on natural terrain demand fitness and hiking experience. Older kids (ages 10+) can manage with frequent rest breaks at the shaded Tower Bridge spur. Younger children will struggle with distance and elevation.
