Overview

About This Attraction

Granite crown rises at the Cadillac Summit, gulls wheel over the rocky edge as dawn light paints the horizon. The surface bears deep gouges and a polished band from ancient mile-high glaciers that swept this region. The rock formed in the Devonian period, roughly 365–420 million years ago, and now marks the highest coastal point on the North Atlantic.

Best Time to Visit

Summit road is open mid-April to mid-November; sunrise viewing is prime, especially Oct 7–Mar 6 when Cadillac Mountain is among the first in the continental U.S. to see dawn. Vehicle reservations are required mid-May to mid-October.

Visitor Tips

  • Parking fills quickly during peak season and for sunrise; arrive early.
  • Dress in warm layers; summit winds bite.
  • Download offline maps; cell service is unreliable.
  • Stay on paved paths; rocks can be slippery, and there are steep sections.
