A white geyserite cone rises beside the boardwalk, steam lifting in the spray during eruptions. That cone forms from mineral-rich water that precipitates geyserite as it erupts, driven by magma 3–8 miles underground. The cone’s age is about 1,000 years, with the surrounding sinter shield dating around 10,000 years and terraces potentially forming over 200,000 years. Eruptions reach up to 90 feet and last about 20 minutes of water, followed by a 30–40 minute steam phase.
Accessible year-round; aim for golden hours when spray can create rainbows and crowds are lighter. Avoid midday glare and peak crowds by choosing early morning or late afternoon.

Boardwalks with gentle slopes; some incline areas near viewing points
Keep children within arm’s reach near Castle Geyser. Stay on the boardwalks and the designated viewing paths, because the ground around the cone is hot and unstable and steam can be strong during eruptions. Wear sturdy shoes and supervise young visitors at all times.

We didn't know that to expect but discovered that this geyser goes on for a long time. But it is not as predictable like the Old Faithful. It was beautiful though and with a wider spread. The colors were fascinating and you can feel the heat as the water boils!!! Recommend to grab some snacks and water and walk the entire trail, stopping for breakfast by the Castle Geyser for sure.

Castle Geyser is a dramatic sight—a massive sinter cone erupts water up to ~90 ft for about 15–20 min, followed by a deafening steam phase lasting ~30–40 min. Eruptions occur every 10–14 hours. Truly impressive, unique, and worth waiting for! The length of the eruptions really make this one a stand-out. You can see it going off across the entire Upper Geyser Basin.

Super cool! With Old Faithful, you are lucky to get an eruption that lasts much longer than a minute. Castle Geyser kept going and going for like an hour! It's a quick walk down the road from Old Faithful and definitely worth it. Uniquely shaped geyser and very satisfying to watch! There are even a couple benches if you want to sit and watch it for a while.

Yes, but supervise closely on boardwalks; keep children away from thermal features and hold hands near the edges.
The water isn’t a vibrant blue; the scene gains color from lighting, spray, and mineral deposits during eruptions.
Eruptions occur irregularly; plan for flexibility and check current park updates for eruption cues and viewing tips.
